Toivon olevani yhä idealisti itsekin, vaikka melkoisen rummutuksen näissä piireissä on saanut kokea.

Oikeastaan yhteiskuntatieteilijä on melkeinpä rammoin kaikista: tieto lisää tuskaa.

October things.
Working hours that went by in a woosh; nice movie followed by a cup of tea and a good chat with a friend; searching of the perfect clew and an aimless wandering through the city centre. Pretty good first day off from teaching. Not to mention the lovely hippie bag a very unusual moment of shoppingcraze had already included into my life during the effective Saturday morning... my only excuse is that I wasn't alone. All things condense in the right company.
Right now my biggest concern is to have enough time and brains to understand Habermas within a week and a half but it's already there, the growing anticipation underneath everything else. Cannot help smiling sometimes. Cannot help making new plans over more new plans before I'm even in the factual processing phase of the first plan.
I hate chichès. Mostly because I'm obsessed to avoiding them and yet feel like I am sliding into making some of them true. Then I need to explain the facts to myself over and over again.
Cynicism is a weird thing. Life is a funny stuff. Knitting is a good hobby.
So is burning candles and letting everything just be: the world, people in it and even The Myself, in its vast plentifulness of good, bad and incomprehensible.

Feeling creative, impatient, studious, anticipative...
A good morning today started with contemporary dance pieces from youtube, with the side of the usual yogurt and bananas. I feel like creating a dance piece - funnily enough that's exactly what's expected from me at the moment, in various ways. I might have made up the term anticipative, but that's the best description of how I've been feeling lately.
Yesterday afternoon I walked about in the university library, looking for the examination books I had listed moments before. (Just a note: what is it with library smells? I could live in there. Someone should make a soap out of it.) I had made a plan of what I should read this autumn as I've got three more exams to go, and I realised it means around 4000 pages. Luckily, I never count the pages.
The cold brisky autumn days are here and I do not complain, what a joy it is to feel the wind and the little chill under this northern sun... going through a lot of phases including nostalgy, patriotism, impatiency to go already, too many memories, too many people leaving already before me, cooking apples from the tree in front of my window for the last autumn and whatnot. It's been a flying about and thus not so much time to write. Life's interesting, though, and that's enough for the moment.
Ach so, yesterday I presented my "Hauptfach" in my German class. As a taste of a philosophical problem, I explained the Gettier example in German. Kudos to me. (edit. note: and naturally to the sheep, paper and real ones, too!)

"By defetishizing critique is meant a procedure of analysis whereby the given is shown to be not a natural fact ...
...but a socially and historically constituted, and thus changeable, reality."
(Seyla Benhabib: Critique, Norm and Utopia, p47.)
Saying of the weekend: Hippie gave me a note, Hegel a headache. But luckily there's always some GG bringing a smidgen of a zippety-pow. Possibly I am coming close to what a legend has told: someone once studied philosophy in our university and even after decades has not yet recovered from it. A co-philosopher put it well the other day: the experience of reading our books is always on the edge of uncomfortability. What then makes us continue? It must be that zippety-pow-thing. However frustrating it is, we know that studying a tad of Hegel will do us good.

Syksy
Paitsi, no, meidän.
*******
Oma syksyni tuli kaupunkiin, kun iltasoitto kajahtaa tanssisalin avonaisista ikkunoista ja kotia tullessa pimeä tuoksuu taas Jyväskylältä.

How this world has come to be
Mother, father please explain to me
How it could be so this world has come to be
A precious balance in between
Such cruelty and such kindness please
Mother, father please explain to me
How this world has come to be
Unequaled in her blessings, oh, I see
Unbridled hatred so extreme, please tell me
Oh Mother, father please explain to me
How this rare world's come to be
A place so full of color yet overflowing
Always in black and white
Drowning in the waters of our...
Mother, father please explain to me
How this world has come to be
While still blessed in all the things we see
Such a sad, sad home for you and me
(Dave Matthews Band: Mother Father)

Under water
Do you know the moment when time stops while taking a shower? After a good workout, or a long day, or being too tired or having your mind too occupied for anything else you just stand there, eyes closed and let the water wash over you, around you, and even though it's just water, thin and too liquid to stay any longer than it has to, it's like a warm bubble that halts the time and space and you can just breathe and concentrate on being.
I wish there was an Einstein here to explain me right now the meaning of relativity.
Standing on a bridge,
watch the water passing under me
It must’ve been much harder
when there was no bridge, just water
Now the world is small.
Remember how it used to be,
with mountains and oceans and winters
and rivers and stars?
(Dave Matthews: Funny the way it is)

Penguin philosophy
Sure I know I should be sleeping already. Instead I was watching "March of the Penguins", followed by the "Making of" and in between some penguin talk with a friend about just how great they are... And then finally, touched and amazed and saddened and delighted and basically everything a person can feel at once because of those funny black and white bird-fish-creatures who walk in this heart-warmingly toddler sort of way as if they never grew off of diapers, I ended up into another favourite thing: watching trailers. I got to say, there's just something about movies. In times only one is not enough but you want to grab a piece of as many as possible at once and for this trailers are excellent. Especially trailers of movies I've seen and know well - the worlds of them will come and relive on the metaphysical level of my thoughts even if I only saw two minutes of them. It's the same as when wandering about in a bookstore or a library and you just want to fill your senses with those endless rows of stories, already told and yet to be found. Walter Benjamin might whisper: this is it, this is the shock effect I already wrote about in the 30's, nothing is enough for you 21st Centurians. But I just want to be filled up with stories and lives and adventures and loves and dramas and wars and pictures of beauty in all world. Benjamin, if someone, should understand something about tries of grasping the big picture.
And penguins! They born, live and die on the White Continent, in the middle of 9 months of winter, carrying their eggs and babies on their feet for months and having no nest, no food, no nothing but their own fur and the others in the community to hold on to. Once in a while they march to the Ocean, and then back, in the long, loyal line of little butlers sliding on their stomachs... I've always had a soft spot for penguins but now I've completely lost my heart to them. Just how brave can the time guardians of the Antarctica be! Absolutely and utterly recommendable to know more of them, even if you wouldn't be quite as crazy about penguins as me.

Dedicated to the forest of my youth that is now just houses
Standing here
The old man said to me,
"Long before these crowded streets
Here stood my dreaming tree."
Below it he would sit
For hours at a time
Now progress takes away
What forever took to find
And now he's falling hard
He feels the falling dark
How he longs to be
Beneath his dreaming tree
(Dave Matthew's Band)
I gave Dublin a second chance and it definitly did its utmost best and here I am: with another city I long for. I'm only in my mid-twenties, what then when I'm eighty? I've got probably the whole world to miss.
My overly patriotic (despite all the travelling) summer is starting slowly turn into autumn schedule next week and the overly patriotic part is getting there to be finished, too. "Progress takes away what forever took to find" - or just the ongoing flowing forwards of life.
Today we thought about the fact how weirdly the technology connects sometimes many people into a place that seemingly is occupied by only one or two. If, for example, I and my flatmate are both at home and maybe both of us speaking in phone, plus we each got our laptops on and have some messenger or skype conversations going on there, that would connect at least four other people to our appartment - and knowing us, it would include already a couple of other countries, too. Wild. Even wilder would be to think of all those other people who'd also might be having their own messengers/skypes/telephones on and so forth - if we could draw a map of all of those connections, that would be one network in the best meaning of the word.
I'm tired, and this time it's not the physical jetlag. Maybe it's a psychological jetlag. My mind is sometimes having a hard time trying to keep up with life's changes.
